Stop Digital Discrimination: the iPad, Assistive Technology and Accessibility

The iPad is amazing. Out of the box it has some of the most powerful assistive technology available. Built-in accessibility features help students with a wide range of disabilities to independently and successfully navigate around the web and through digital educational material.
The App Store offers apps that go further than what is built into the device. There are apps that help with communication, reading comprehension and even apps that turn printed text into audio.
With this technology in such close reach now, the potential to deploy amazing assistive technology solutions is only getting higher. And that means that we have more opportunities than ever to more fully include students with disabilities into the classroom and student life in general.
But the best assistive technology out there may not be worth a penny if the digital content it interacts with is not accessible.
The second part of this session will put a focus on accessible digital material. You will learn about some of the more common digital barriers to people with disabilities. And more importantly, you will learn how you can help to remove or avoid those barriers altogether.
