Creating a Safe Haven for All Students

Through technology, teachers now have the opportunity to empower all students to show their thinking in unique ways and participate in learning that make sense for them. But simply putting technology in the hands of students and giving them a project-based assignment isn’t enough to truly open up broader learning spaces for students. We have to also create the rapport and community within our classrooms to ensure that students feel safe working through struggles. By beginning our work with technology with a “Safe Haven” focus, we are more likely to truly engage students in transformational learning with technology.


Jessica Herring

Jessica Herring is a high school English teacher in Benton, Arkansas and is a member of the ADE Class of 2015.
